The founding document of the Syrian Social Democratic Party is as follows:
"A society characterized by freedom, justice, and solidarity, and a national state that empowers the people."

Syrian Social Democratic Party :

The Syrian Social Democratic Party is a popular political party that includes Syrians from all over the world. Our aim is to put an end to the dictatorship in our country and transition to a pluralistic democratic political system. We envision a comprehensive development renaissance while ensuring social justice and a free and dignified life for all Syrians.

Our founding document comprises four parts: Principles, Values, Means, and the Political Agenda. These components are interconnected. In this document, we provide explanations for each of these concepts, as they carry various meanings and interpretations in current literature and culture.

First: our principles :

The principles represent the guiding and inspiring values that led to the establishment of our party. They outline realistic and essential objectives that we strive to achieve. These principles are deeply connected to our national and humanitarian responsibilities, and they compel us to work towards their realization in all aspects of our nation’s past, present, and future. In line with our beliefs, we have identified three principles that form the foundation of our journey:

1- Syrian Nationalism :

Syria, within its internationally recognized geographical boundaries as defined by the United Nations Charter, is our homeland. The people who hold legal Syrian nationality are its constituents. Citizenship serves as the legal bond that unites us, while nationalism represents the emotional attachment and sense of belonging that connects individuals to their country. It inspires dedication to its service and fosters trust and cohesion among fellow citizens. This bond promotes equal rights and responsibilities without discrimination.

We envision Syria as a prominent nation among others globally, but our intention is not to impose this viewpoint on others or engage in competitive endeavors to prove it. Our nationalism is rooted in our love for our land and our fellow citizens, and it is solely defined by that attachment.

2- Independence:

Independence signifies our right to make internal and external decisions based on our aspirations, to be the masters of our own homeland, and to reclaim the occupied territories that rightfully belong to us. It also entails aligning ourselves with the universal humanitarian values shared by the free world and exercising complete sovereignty over our national territory. Independence is crucial for safeguarding our national interests, preserving our cultural heritage, and ensuring the well-being of our people. It allows us to chart our own course and pursue policies that reflect the aspirations and needs of our nation. At the same time, we recognize the importance of engaging with the international community and cooperating with other nations based on mutual respect and shared values. Our pursuit of independence is driven by a desire to uphold the principles of self-determination, justice, and dignity for all Syrians.

3- Democracy:

We embrace democracy as a political system, wherein the people govern themselves through representative institutions and bodies. We firmly believe in the power of democracy to ensure active participation, protect individual and collective freedoms, and foster a just and inclusive society. Our aim is not only to establish a democratic political system but also to build a social democracy through gradual and secure reforms. In our vision of a social democracy, we strive to safeguard the rights and liberties of individuals, as well as the richness of social and cultural diversity within our nation. We are committed to promoting equal citizenship and social justice, ensuring that every member of society has access to opportunities, resources, and a dignified life. Our pursuit of social democracy is guided by the principles of fairness, solidarity, and the well-being of all Syrians. We recognize that achieving social democracy requires a continuous and dynamic process of reform, based on the needs and aspirations of our people. We seek to establish institutions and mechanisms that enable the active participation of citizens, uphold the rule of law, and ensure transparency and accountability in governance. Through these efforts, we aim to create a democratic society where all Syrians can thrive and contribute to the progress of our nation.

Second : Our values

Values are the ethical principles that we deeply believe in. They shape our policies, positions, and programs. Here, we outline the most prominent ones

1-Freedom:

We strongly believe in the value of individual freedom and the right for every person to express their opinions and make independent decisions. This includes the right to participate in political life, engage in public decision-making processes, and hold those in power accountable.

However, individual freedom should be balanced with the concept of freedom for all, and politics plays a crucial role in finding compromises that allow everyone to exercise their freedom while respecting the freedom of others

Freedom is a complex and ongoing process that evolves with the progress of political, economic, social, cultural, and human conditions

2-Social Justice :

Social justice goes beyond legal justice and encompasses equal opportunities for a good life from birth through various stages of life, such as education, professional development, employment, retirement, and old age. It aims to ensure that no individual in society is left vulnerable to circumstances such as poverty, illness, or conflict. Social justice requires providing opportunities for individuals to overcome disadvantages they may have faced, whether due to personal choices or external factors. It is a foundational principle that promotes societal cohesion and ensures the well-being of all.

3-Equality:

We advocate for equality, which means that no individual or group should face discrimination or prejudice based on factors such as race, culture, economic status, or gender. However, equality does not imply erasing individual identities or disregarding diverse cultural, national, and social backgrounds. It emphasizes the value of preserving one’s cultural heritage and recognizes the inherent worth of all individuals. Equality requires fair treatment, appreciation, and respect for differences, while ensuring that everyone has equal opportunities to achieve their goals and aspirations.

4-Solidarity:

Solidarity is rooted in empathy, compassion, and a sense of responsibility towards others. It goes beyond individual goodwill during times of hardship and aims to establish institutionalized mechanisms that prevent tragic events and promote sustainable solutions. Solidarity should be proactive, grounded in humanitarian principles, and supported by the creation of safety networks and institutions. It is important to foster a culture of solidarity that is deeply embedded in our communities and institutionalized based on national considerations, ensuring its sustainability and responsiveness to societal needs.

These values shape our policies, positions, and programs, and they guide our commitment to building a society characterized by freedom, social justice, equality, and solidarity.

Third : Our methods and approaches :

We prioritize peaceful means as the primary approach to achieve our objectives

1-Peaceful Means:

We prioritize peaceful means as the primary approach to achieve our objectives. We believe in the effectiveness of nonviolent methods, which are more cost-effective and have a lasting impact. While we acknowledge that revolutionary change may be necessary in extreme oppressive circumstances, we exhaust all nonviolent options before considering such measures. We firmly oppose violence as a solution and strive to remove obstacles through nonviolent means.

2-Gradual Reform :

We adopt a strategy of gradual reform to address the challenges hindering the progress of our society. This approach involves systematically addressing problems and dismantling barriers in a progressive and safe manner. We recognize that reform takes time, patience, and strategic planning while staying committed to our vision of a society based on freedom, justice, and solidarity

3- Values-Based Approach :

Our political engagement is grounded in values and ethics such as freedom, justice, equality, and solidarity. We reject conflicts based on sectarian, ethnic, religious, tribal, regional, or ideological differences. We actively promote peace, cooperation, and the well-being of all members of society

4- Practical Results :

We hold ourselves accountable based on the practical outcomes of our policies and actions rather than relying on empty rhetoric. We strive to deliver effective services and tangible improvements to our society. We believe in translating our values into concrete actions that benefit the people we serve

5- Organizing:

We emphasize the importance of organizing forces at various levels to achieve the best outcomes. We support the formation of cross-cultural parties and organizations, as well as the organization of labor unions and interest groups involved in civic affairs. We aim to enhance collective work and increase the participation of diverse groups in public life.

6- Popular Mobilization :

We value the input and engagement of our citizens. We actively listen to their voices, engage in dialogue, and involve them in decision-making processes. Social reform requires listening to diverse perspectives, including those from the productive, intellectual, and professional sectors. By mobilizing the support and involvement of the people, we strengthen our capacity to achieve our goals.

7- Sustainability:

We adopt a long-term historical perspective in our work, considering the interests of future generations. Our solutions, proposals, and approaches prioritize stability and sustainability. We consider the preservation of our institutions, resources, plans, and symbolic heritage, ensuring they represent our history and contribute positively to the future. We are a party for the entire people, but we do not hesitate to show our commitment to the poor, the vulnerable, and the marginalized, who represent most of our people today. Advocate for a mixed-market economic system that relies on both the private and public sectors, with continuous social oversight, ensuring the fair distribution of infrastructure throughout the country. Support legislation that allows the state to intervene in the overall economy to maintain justice and equity

Fourth : Post-Dictatorship Program :

Our political program, the “Post-Dictatorship Program,” is our operational plan to effectively address the issues and challenges in the political arena during the post-dictatorship era. It consists of 15 prioritized items, and we will provide detailed research and explanations for each item.

For the Syrian Democratic Socialist Party, the political program is titled the “Post-Dictatorship Program.”

Political Transition towards Democracy

1- We commit to the struggle alongside our people, democratic forces, and international institutions that stand against the repressive regime and aim to overthrow the dictatorial system that has controlled Syria for decades. We support the international roadmap for a solution, specifically UN Resolution 2254, and work with the Syrian people’s forces to establish a democratic political system based on the free will of Syrians, separation of powers, and effective respect for human rights as outlined in international declarations. We engage in relevant bodies and institutions to demonstrate our commitment and credibility, recognizing that our beliefs and statements hold importance and credibility only when we assume responsibility.

2- Transitional Justice and Reconciliation We advocate for the application of transitional justice principles, including holding accountable all perpetrators of crimes from all parties involved, revealing the fate of the missing and forcibly disappeared individuals, providing support for victims and their families, addressing the refugee issue and its consequences, and creating the necessary conditions for societal cohesion and comprehensive reconciliation.

3- Pursuing a Realistic, Equitable, Comprehensive, and Sustainable Reconstruction Process

4- We aim to extend the path of reconstruction based on realism, equality, comprehensiveness, and sustainability. This includes developing modern infrastructure, social welfare systems, healthcare, and educational frameworks in line with international standards.

5- Establishing inclusive governance systems that protect human rights, ensure the rule of law, and promote social justice.

6- Advocating for the establishment of a professional, accountable national military and security apparatus under the authority of civilian constitutional institutions, proportionate to the requirements of internal security while safeguarding national sovereignty.

7- Firmly committing to defending women’s rights, promoting gender equality, and creating the legal, cultural, social, and economic environment that empowers women.

8- Supporting the establishment of a decentralized local governance system, from small municipalities to the governorate level, enabling citizens to manage their local affairs within the context of the national strategy.

9- Seeking to provide employment opportunities domestically, reduce widespread unemployment and reliance on overseas labor, either through supporting productive sectors or facilitating local and foreign investment. From our perspective, employment is the wealth of Syrians that must be nurtured, within the framework of sovereign regulations and respect for workers’ rights.

10 – Aiming to lift a significant portion of the population out of poverty within ten years following the fall of the dictatorship, transitioning them to a middle-class status. Combating poverty and economic disparity is an essential aspect of our development goals.

11- Foreign relations based on international decisions and agreements, aligning with our national interests, and advocating for global peace through democratic means that balance global interests.

12- Collaborating with the international community on global and local environmental reconciliation issues, particularly addressing the post-war environmental damage affecting our country’s ecosystems

13- Placing special emphasis on our relationships with Arab countries, Western European countries, and Turkey, which host a significant portion of our population, to contribute to the scientific, economic, social, and cultural development of our nation. We work on organizing the Syrian diaspora and enhancing their connection with their homeland

14. Promoting the change of prevailing cultural patterns associated with sectarianism, ethnicity, tribalism, and their conflicts. We focus on the aspirations and ambitions of individuals and their impact on their lives and future through institutions, effectively shaping the Syrian identity while embracing modern civic organizations and networks that transcend traditional structures.

15. We are a party for the entire people, but we do not hesitate to show our commitment to the poor, the vulnerable, and the marginalized, who represent most of our people today.

16. Advocate for a mixed-market economic system that relies on both the private and public sectors, with continuous social oversight, ensuring the fair distribution of infrastructure throughout the country. Support legislation that allows the state to intervene in the overall economy to maintain justice and equity.
